Spanish Mackerel and as yet unidentified fish caught today. Mackerel was caught while cruising at about four knots in the channel. Didn't really know he was on the line until I reeled him in.
Other fish caught while cruising slowly through the bridge by Cocoa Village.

Looks like the ultimate dinner! Haven't had a chance to check in with you in the last couple of days, I had some things to take care of. Glad you saw the launch. The booster ships came in today towing the rocket boosters. They are not in the barge, but towed like a dinghy. Pretty impressive to see up close.
I'm guessing Amy is flying into Melbourne Airport. Are you guys going any further south from there? If so I can give you some of our favorite haunts. This weekend should be nice weather. Perfect timing Amy!

Amy, that's about the extent of my fishing jokes/wisdom.
Carla, this is about the nadir of my trip. It's soon time to start heading north again. I don't know if we'll go any further south while Amy is here. It depends on which way the wind is blowing. Maybe we'll come up to Cocoa for a visit.
My only complaint so far about the Indian River is the lack of protected anchorages. Yah, I can snug up to the windward shore. But as soon as I do that, it's likely that the wind will change.

I am flying into Melbourne... If it works out weather-wise, I'm hoping for a trip up to Cocoa, but if you have any recommendations for places between Melbourne and there, we'd love to know them!
I know what you mean about wind shifts and anchorages on the Indian River. There are a few good restaurants along that stretch of the river, we were thinking about sailing to Coral Cay (near the Pineda Causeway) on Saturday.
I just remembered a very sheltered anchorage close to where I think you are. It's called Ballard Park. On the west side of the Indian River about 1/2 mile south of the Eau Gallie Causeway there is a cove. Hard to see from the river, but there is a marked channel. Once you're inside, anchor on the south side. We've even just pulled Isla up on the sandy dinghy beach.

I saw the islands you're talking about going to this weekend. We're meeting friends of Amy's on Saturday. I'm not sure how a visit to Coral Cay would fit into those plans, but if we're near them this weekend, we'll stop by.
I didn't notice any waterfront restaurants on the way down. I may have been too busy with the fishing.
Looking at the map, I wonder if it is possible to sail up the east side of Merritt Island, on the Banana River. Have you considered that? Would put you closer to Cocoa Beach if you had time to explore a little there.
I doubt that is possible. But if you can cruise a gemini on the banana river, I would think Carla would have an expert opinion. I'd love to do it, if it's possible.
