Dinner?

But seriously, seas are pretty calm. East winds diminishing. I'm a little farther out than ever before. No one else in sight. I'll be pretty content to bob around out in the North Atlantic tonight.

Uh oh - if that Sargasso weed is beginning to look like dinner I'm concerned that you may have not packed enough supplies (like on the way down!).

I'm amazed at how you're able to stay connected on the Internet while you're this far offshore.

It's really adding to my sense of being able to better visualize how things are going out there.

Are you close enough to the Gulf Stream to get any benefit?

Captain good. Boat Good. Weather Good. Internet not so good.

Position: 26 degrees 51.1321 minutes North, 81 degrees 15.952 minutes West. About 15 miles east of St. Augustine.

Continuing past St. A. My disdain of the place is well documented.

Got a call from the Coast Guard today. Always pleasant. FYI, the best thing to do is to try to text me. Even 25 miles out I've had occasional cell phone service.

If I'm overdue, I'll call you. I've had excellent vhf reception out here. And there are plenty of other boats out here too.

Trip debriefing later.

It's good to see you posting again - I was beginning to have a mild bit of concern since it'd been two days without any boatcam, etc.

I can imagine that you're pretty tired by now! Those coordinates that you gave are a bit wacky because they place you just west of Lake Okeechobee.

How has the fishing been?

Good luck on continued progress - north!

I feel only a little foolish for the coast guard call. But I'm glad that I was not the only one worried. Maybe in the future you can send me a text message the next time you're out of contact for that long.

I'll look forward to the full debrief.

Ahhh . . so that's how Scott rated a special call from the Coast Guard. I was wondering if 'border security' had changed their protocols or what else would've inspired them to initiate radio contact.

Back when I did my cruising, cell phones weren't very common - much less the interactive web stuff like we see here. Therefore, Phyllis & I were routinely out of contact for 7+ days at a time and it seemed OK, at least for me (male perspective).

It's interesting how quickly expectations change to match new technology such that I too was concerned about the two days incommunicado. It's good to know that it's smooth sailing out there.

Sorry about the bad coordinates. Presently 30 degrees 7.741 minutes north, 81 degrees 17.390 minutes west. Better?

Glad you are alive and well. Your gps is not showing your correct location. It has you around Titusville?

It actually still has you at Cocoa Beach at 28.63423 Latitude and 80.40993 Longitude.

Thought you'd enjoy this, once you have better internet service: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/76429

I'm in St Augustine. I had to turn back. The weather turned ugly and the wind and waves were making progress north difficult.

I'm exhausted. I don't know how I made it through this morning. Probably pure adrenaline.

No trip recap today. I don't know that I can string together too many more coherent sentences.

But wow. A four day, three night ocean singlehanded passage. I can't even believe it.

Thanks Kristen. Very funny, as most onion stuff is. Fortunately, I have no boat living regrets. Amy's going to have to drag me back on land.
