Caught a striped bass today. We call 'em rockfish where I'm from. It was the fifth rockfish hit we've had on the lure we troll. (I'm pretty sure they've all been rockfish. That's the most common fish that would take the bait in the waters we've been cruising.) I lost the other fish. I think I was reeling them in too hard and yanked the hooks out of them. This one I reeled in slowly after Amy put the boat in irons (or as she says "chains").
It's the biggest fish I've ever caught on my own and made a delicious dinner (lots of leftovers too). Amy and I each took a fillet and had a cook off, Top Chef style. She's going to post about the cooking and I'll link to her blog when it's posted.

Scott,
Nice catch, but how did you get that hurt on your forehead? Did the fish bite you?
No, the boatcam attacked me.
Did you get stitches? It looks like it. Ouch! I think the Boatcam might have also been responsible for the bite in your shorts :) Cute pic of you and fish -He looks like Bubba- not sure if I mean the fish or you - you both look alittle alike in that pic:) Are you stopping in New Haven for tonight?
Ahh Fish... One day I will catch one! For now it is painful to watch the success of others.
On a different note - I noticed you stayed at a relatively inexpensive marina in NJ - can you share with us where it was? We will be passing through there soon and looking for somewhere to leave the boat for a while.. Thanks
Maryanne
Hey Rocky---
Nice Rock (both) the fish and your head.
I think the fight with getting the fish on board might have earned you that bo bo. Buy the way the fish did look good on the grill.
We missed you guys yesterday 6/21 down here in Nap Town. It was Eastport-a-rockin. 5000 people this year... up from 4k last year.
It was a nice windy 82 degree day. The beer and the music was exec.
My Fred,Carol,Mary Ann and I were the group this year. We all behaved this year.
Keep up the good fishing.
Hi Amy
Talk to you all later
OS
Maryanne,
We stayed at Silver Cloud Marina by Barnegat Inlet. Overnight dockage was 75 cents a foot! I don't know what their long term rates are. I really liked the place. It was low key, but had everything we needed. Clean showers, pool, ship's store and provisioning within walking/biking distance. There's an excellent pizza joint and a tiki bar nearby. The other boat owners were congenial and there are gas barbeques on the docks.
Troll your lure while you come through the inlet and into the back bay. You can't help but catch some bluefish. We had to pull our line in, we were catching more fish than we could eat.
OS, I'm sorry I missed the Eastport festival. I'm sure you guys had plenty of fun without me. Glad you guys stayed out of trouble this year. Probably had something to do with my absence and lack of bad influence. The Admiral inquires as to how your romantic Tangier Island weekend turned out.
Scott
Amy - thanks for the NJ marina tips, but as for the rest of your reply, I'm a different Maryanne! No Tangier Island for me....
Sorry for the confusion - it was Scott posting under my name above, and the second half of the reply was aimed at Older Salty who has his own M.A. (We now know more Mary Ann's than Freds!)
p.s. the marina he refers to was at the end of the north fork of Forked River.
