I've now been through NYC three times, but this was my first time going through from the North.
Saw the latest public art exhibit today.
I was a bit underwhelmed. Wish I had seen this instead.
I've seen a lot of warships on this trip. This is was the first peaceboat.
For a while, It looked like the Free Ikea water taxi and I were on a collision course.

How about a blog update and let us know where you are?
Well, I see by your gps that you are at Avon By the Sea and the Shark River Inlet, about a 25 mile sail from your last position. In the absence of a blog update, at least this lets us know you are alive and well unless pirates have come to the east coast!
Sorry about the lack of blog updates. I'm just tired. And it's hot. I've tried to write some posts the past few days, but can't seem to complete them.
Today I sailed through fog with a whole bunch of fishing boats in the waters around me. I wish I could write something coherent about the experience, but did I mention that it's hot. And I'm tired.
Hey, been following you the whole way. This is my first attempt to post anything. Just wanted to let you know I found a cd for the little gps. It's City Navigator NT, whatever that is. Have been without wifi access. We must have sailed right past you today in the fog. We did the East River Yesterday and anchored at Atlantic Highlands (like you did on the way up). We left Atlantic Highlands at 5:30 this morning, and arrived home at 8:30 this evening (Little Egg inlet). We made over 70 NM today by motor sailing. I did not even think of calling you on ch 16 as I thought you would be well south by now.
Just a note. We were out past Sandy Hook yesterday at 3:30 pm. We were going to Shark River for the night (small world). However 25 knot winds on our nose made the 17 mile passage impossible by dark. We turned around and wound up at Atlantic Highlands instead.

SF, your gps saved my butt yesterday. Not a chance that I would have found the Shark River Inlet without it. I found that if you zoom in close enough, the gps will display buoys. I just aimed between the red and green markers on the gps screen. The inlet can't be more than 50 yards or so wide.
Lou, I was at an anchorage on Sandy Hook. I left about the same time you did. I had a lot of current against me rounding the hook, but then had a nice sail for a few hours.
I then drifted for a few hours in the fog. I came uncomfortably close to several boats. With the engine off, I was able to hear approaching boats and sound my air horn. Also, I was unlikely to hit any boats fishing with their engine off. I suppose you felt more secure running with your radar on. I don't have all those fancy electronics on my boat.

Rose, I was just talking to Amy about that this morning. I think I would have a lot more enjoyable sail home if I waited until the fall to do it. I'm calling around to marinas in NJ to find one where I could leave the boat for a month or two.

oh thank goodness. Smart and wise man. Get home to Amy soon and enjoy some of that great food we read about on her blog as well as enjoying a few days vacation before she begins teaching. I think she needs you and you need her too!
