Self Install

Nautig now self installs like a regular windows program. Download the setup file here. The initial program setup includes the basic charts and more detailed charts for the Chesapeake bay. For other detailed charts you still need to download and unzip one or more of the following files. They should be unzipped into the "chart" directory.

Charts_1.zip
100 mb Florida Keys to North Carolina

Charts_2.zip
90 mb North Carolina to Long Island Sound

Charts_3.zip
70 mb Long Island Sound to Maine

Self install worked great. Scott tells me that you have to also download the map files, although it looks like 3 maps are already installed with self install.

Beta test shows some overlap of maps, which makes it difficult to read in the areas of overlap. The fade control doesn't eliminate the difficulty much.

Also, if you try to zoom in on an area of the US not covered by the installed maps, the program hangs up.

Looks like it has real potential for sailors without having to have constant web access.

Thanks grampa. Uploaded a new version which fixes some bugs and the problem of the program hanging when zooming in on an area without installed maps.
I'm still not sure what I want to do about the overlapping charts.

If you install the new version, you should probably uninstall the old version first. You can do this through the add/remove programs in the control panel of Windows, or click on the setup/uninstall file in C:/program files/NautiG.

You could also probably download the program file and replace c:/program files/Nautig/NautiG.exe with the new file. That would avoid downloading the 100+ megabytes of chart and satellite tiles.

Go Ravens!
