The Dismal Swamp Canal reminds me of the C&O Canal back home, but without the towpath and with more boats.

From the name Dismal Swamp, I think I expected something that looked like a scene from a Harry Potter movie... It does look pretty!
I bet it was named by the guys who dug the canal with picks and shovels way back when. I imagine it isn't so pleasant in the summer with the mosquitoes.
Thanks to Peter Y. who visited me at the visitor's center and gave me a new (to me) laptop. It has Windows XP on it. Hurray! I'm working on getting it set up and working with my wireless modem, webcam, gps, etc.
