Fred speaks:
Where it all ends I can't fathom my friends, I'll just toss out my anchor. Oh, wait a minute. It ends in Cocoa Beach. Well, I think Scott has handled me fairly well. It is always tight quarters on a boat. We had great weather most of the time. It was raining as we came through the lock to Cocoa Beach which was very fun. Got to wear my rain gear. Didn't even get sunburned which was a concern, but the boat is well protected as one is piloting. Saw dolphins, lots of birds, but no manatees. Bike week in Daytona was LOUD. Well behaved for biker dudes, but since most of them were my age or older, I guess that comes with the times. Off to land and car rental. BOO. Thanks, Scott.

I saw a whale on our passage. Also saw the Shuttle on the launch pad. Thought we had the webcam running as we went through the inlet and locks, but I guess not. Looks like it crashed earlier. GD Vista and Bill Gates.
I'm dropping off Fred later this morning. We saw a bunch of restaurants along the inlet. Looked like we could tie up to one and have an early lunch. Any recommendations? Car rental place is about a quarter mile from the inlet.
Webcam should be interesting as we go through the lock and bridge. And as I go through again, and back into the Banana River.
Safe travels, Fred!
That's a beautiful sunrise.
Scott and Fred,
I thought I saw you guys lock through around 08:00?
JJ Grills (Tiki bar at sunrise marina) is our local hangout, but there isn't really anywhere to tie up in the port. Private docks, and real busy. Nautical Spirits is in harbortown marina, also good, and they will usually let you tie up for lunch. You may want to call and ask.
Carla
Hey Carla, already called Grills. They said we could tie up at the adjacent marina for lunch.
That wasn't us this morning. I saw that cat go through too.
Great blog and pics. Looks like Fred is happy and stinky :). Thank you Scott for taking such good care of him and giving him a great adventure. I know he enjoyed it. Maybe now he will blog you more often and do it himself instead of having me type it for him:)
Wish he could be there for the launch, but his job is calling him back. Too bad. I bet it will be fun!
Thanks again Scott. We will have to have you and Amy over for dinner one night when you are back on land.
Rose
Got Fred safely ashore. I assume he's now on his way to the airport.
We had lunch at Grills. The food was excellent, and a great value. For what you'd usually pay for a frozen fried fish sandwich, I had a perfectly seared piece of tuna on a bun. Clams and onion rings were also very good.
I'm at the anchorage recommended by Carla. I think it's a good spot to weather what looks like a big storm coming.
I'm assuming that was you Carla, waving from the Casino boat on our way in. I'll give you a call tomorrow at the crack of noon or so, about the Mardi Gras thing. Looks like it's still supposed to be pretty windy tomorrow.
